    Hi NE teachers

    I am rethinking the way we plan for writing this year and am exploring ways to make it more inquiry based.  I am interested in seeing formats for long term planning that other NE teachers use and wondered if anyone would like to share?

    I am seeking advice on strategies for extending a student in my class who is working around Stage 5.  He is five years old and incredibly knowledgeable mathematically.  He also uses advanced problem solving strategies and articulates them beautifully.  My hope is that he can work on mathematical investigations that are developmentally appropriate for him.  Any suggestions welcome and thanks in advance.

    great contribution.... Have a few questions now! Do you record your own videos for the QR codes for handwriting? Also, what are your learning intentions and the pictures you mention for each? Would you be able to post a photo for me to see of these?

    Thanks for asking that Karrie!  I was about to post the same question.  Would love to get my hands on something like this before I reinvent the wheel.

    I am also curious about what a reading modelling looks like?  Is it full of follow up tasks?  Are you able to post a photo or two?  

    Also, Keryn, do you have a specific list of Learning Intentions for writing?  I work from several sources but would be keen to see a list with primarily emergent LIs listed.

    A few years ago I attempted to go 'paperless' and do away with modelling books but it was a big mistake!  I had everything saved online in my flipcharts because I modeled everything through the interactive whiteboard.  The trouble with this was that the children could not access their prior learning as it was too difficult for them to find.  Printing it out and sticking into books was an option but defeated the purpose of less paper so I am back to books!

    I noticed there is an option for inserting photos into these posts and comments.  Would anyone like to share a classroom display or learning area in their classrooms via a photo here? Any photos could be inspirational for others. 

    Could be a great way to share more ideas and more visual as well!

    Do any schools / teachers out there use the SEA (School Entrance Assessment) to assess school readiness and help provide formative assessment for teaching and learning?  If so, how do you administer this?  Where do you record/store results?  How do you use the information?  If not, why not?  Do you use a different form of assessment?

    Also, is there a school readiness assessment in New Zealand that has proven effective and comprehensive?  

    I hope this will provide for interesting conversation in the NE Group on VLN!
