    Kia ora koutou

At the moment things are on hold.  Last year I intended to push to have a "conference" both in the north and south, but shied away from this due to the mahi this would have created in terms of organisation and logistics.  Venue, sponsorship, speakers, support team etc.

My BOT were generous in their release for me to pursue this last year, but I could not ask the same of them in 2015.

I hope to continue this in the future.

    Kia ora

I borrowed this phrase from a colleague, Jan Tinetti.  Our schools have been overlooked in terms of support.  Some in the Ministry of Education are aware of this.

In dual medium schools, schools where we are all trying to balance two curriculums in many instances, National Standards and Nga Whanaketanga Rūmaki Māori staffing for our unique situations we are finding very limited places or means to get support.

From the hui we held in Tauranga, Hamilton, Hawkes Bay and the East Coast, it became even clearer that there is a huge desire to do soemthing.

A consistent thought was to plan a conference which is relevant to our school contexts.  To hear stories from collaegues and from this develop a plan of our next steps moving forward.

I am interested in your thoughts on how we might:

    • Prepare for this conference
    • Find sponsorship
    • Decide on speakers/presenters, locals from Aotearoa who have worked in this context or associated areas.
    • Where and when
    • Who would like to help lead this initiative
    • How we get buy in from everyone - including commitment to attend as a priority
    • Contacting others across the country beyond the Central region

Plus of course any other considerations or ideas you may have.

    Mauri ora

I am the principal of a wonderful school in Ngati Maniapoto. The school is a dual medium learning environment.
