I am particularly interested in MLE's from a library perspective. The idea of having a central learning space in the school that offers all the benefits of an MLE that teachers who would like to explore the idea of using or collaborating with another teacher or teachers can do so.  Kind of 'dipping their toes in the water'. It would allow for teachers within different disciplines in a secondary environment to collaborate across their departments and have all the resourcing for research and ubiquitious learning in one space, as well as be able to plan and collaborate with a librarian who can support and contribute to the learning outcomes.

A library colleague of mine did that using an i-pad app to show the busyness of her school library during lunchtime.  She has posted the result on YouTube. She said it was relatively easy to do and could be done in this context for this purpose.

Couldn't agree with you more Ross! Am still following up on BYOD in my school and appreciated your great presentation at SLANZA Conference last year Smile

    Thanks Karen

I'm relatively new to my school so was not involved with the rollout of Ultranet previously. However, we are already working through all of Tim's a, b, c's as part of developing our e-learning framework. I am determined we get the next iteration of LMS right for the staff, hence my questions about Schoology. Teacher buy-in is absolutely crucial and so I wanted to investigate Schoology given the enthusiasm of my teaching colleague.

I really appreciate the links provided Karen. Will explore further and have a couple of other contacts to follow up on from developments yesterday.

I have a teacher on my staff who is all fired up about Schoology.  This is a new Learning Management System for me.  If you are using it at your school, could you let me know:

    1. what made you choose it over other LMS's that schools are using

    2. what you consider to be the most useful feataures of this system

I'd really appreciate your feedback.  We have used Ultranet in the past but it is not being used at all currently so the decision has to be made about which LMS to re-introduce for staff.

Richard Byrne who writes the Free Technology for Teachers website also has a nice short video on three ways that students can search for creative commons licensed images which I plan to use next year.

I have just finished The Circle by David Eggers, which I would thoroughly recommend. This thought-provoking read follows a new employee's journey as she begins work for the world's largest and most prestigious internet company, The Circle.  This novel demonstrates the insidiousness of the merging of your private, online and work lives and the potential consequences of this.  I'd be keen to use this with Y12 or 13 students as it would create great discussion on a contentious and very timely topic.  It'll really get you thinking!

    Hi everyone

And thanks for taking the time to set yourself up on the VLN.  It will be a powerful link to great collaboration opportunities, ideas and a place to ask questions of other teachers.

I also appreciate you filling in the evaluation sheets from the session I presented yesterday.  There were several things I could follow up on from the question: "What would you like to know more about?" If I see some activity happening on here I would be happy to try and answer as many as I can, but also feel free to begin any new discussions as well.

Best of luck in whatever next year holds for you, and if you want to find out about anything related to research, guided inquiry or using school libraries, please feel free contact me and I'll do my best to help you.

Going with the premise there is no such thing as a dumb question, and wearing my "newbies" hat for this role in my school, my question is: Is e-portfolio another choice LMS such as Ultranet or Knowledge Net, or is it designed to sit alongside them and provide a different function?

Thanks so much for your posting Janet.  I have spent the last hour investigating Stephen Harris and found a treasure-trove of information to inform my thinking!
