When I had Year 3/4, I rotated the children through Dancemat Typing. Each student got to do typing instead of handwriting at least once a week  during the handwriting lesson. It's a fun self pace programme (web based). This did 2 things: familiarised the children with the Qwerty keyboard and sped up their typing. I continued this with my Year 2 class and it did the same for them, but to a lesser extent.

i would like to see this carry on through the year levels as I feel the children would end up with a worthwhile skill.

    Hi Johan,

We were having trouble with our emails on an aging Linux box a couple of years ago. We decided not to rehost the emails on site and moved to GAFE. We have never looked back. Its easy to initially upload, administer (I have the iPad app) and if Google ever went down, there would be bigger fish than us having something to say.

It is really easy to set up the google account on any device and as long as you make them IMAP accounts, they will sync between devices.

    Regards

I went through iBooks, then into the store and typed in SWRL and the whole collection showed up to download. They are still free.

    Cheers

    Hi

We use a mix of Apple TV (in some rooms) and Airserver for the others. Airserver allows you to show more than 1 device at the same time. I have also used QuickTime to screen record for screencasts and to make a movie of an e-pub to put on blogs (until either the developers or I figure out a way of embedding them). You can password the app so others can't "crash" your session. Everything must run on the same Wifi network. Mac or PC.

You can get a trial version (7 days), but we got a bulk deal for the licenses. http://www.airserver.com/Usage/Education

    Cheers

I have noticed this jumping from the Drive app to the docs app. At present my only suggestion would be if everyone was happy using the "Drive" app, just delete the "Doc" app until there is an update/adjustment sent through. I have also got Quickoffice, and that is great for creating documents offline and then saving it to the drive. The one glitch is the same, you need to then open Drive to get the document into the correct folder. Quickoffice is better for presentations as it can access the iPad camera roll.

We are embarking on GAFE for years 3 - 8 and I (ICT Leadership) have given a master copy of the passwords to their classroom teacher as we are using the same one for their individual 'web based filtering' log on.

The students will be expected to take responsibility for their passwords and any resets/recoveries will be directed firstly through their classroom teacher, then requests via their teacher to myself only for any resets.

We are also able to email via our SMS, so if need be we can plead that we can only provide such sensitive information through a (guardian's) registered email.

    This is Plan A.
