I have noticed recently that some apps are not loading onto our school iPads.

In some cases, the apps were initially on the iPad and required an update, then just sit in the update app area, without loading.    On the iPad, the app icon is shaded and not usable.

In other cases, with our new iPads, the app just doesn't even load.

The apps that I have noticed doing this so far are Chrome, You Tube, Google Search and Kiwi Kids News.

Does anyone have the same problem, or did and have fixed it?

If it makes any difference, I am using Meraki to manage our school iPads.

  • MeganCroll1 16 Apr 2015 11:06am () in Care of device

We are about to launch a BYOD pilot programme with 2 Year 5&6 classes and are currently

A question that a parent has asked is around the transportation of the device to and from school, e.g. leaked water bottle in the school bag.  Apart from providing the device with a good, robust case and putting inside a plastic bag; are schools offering any other advise?

Parent is also concerned about child forgetting to pack into the bag at the end of the day.    We will have an end of day checklist and have devices in a lockable cupboard when not in use so if the child forgets, then they will be locked for the night.  Is there another strategy?

Thanks for any advise for those who have been down the road before me.

We have been using Meraki as our management system for our iPads over the past 12 months and now have to apply for the renewal of our Apple certificate, with Apple.

The problem is, when I go to the Apple site, I can't find where to request for a renewal.  The only place I can find is where to create a certificate.  I don't want to do this as this will affect all iPads managed under the existing certificate.

I have requested help from Meraki, but no reply so far.

    Can anyone help?

Thanks for sharing PixiClip Steve.   It looks like a great on-screen recording webtool.

We leased 50 Acer Chromebooks earlier this year and split them between our 9 Year 5-8 classes.   They are just the best!  Far better than the netbooks that we previously had.

We store 5 in a plastic box/crate and they are picked up from my 'home' class and returned at the end of the day.  Student monitors are responsible for connecting them to power before they go home and I turn them off before I leave at the end of the day.

The rooms are locked during break time - this security practise is preparing us for BYOD in 2015.

All has worked well so far.

We had a similar issue and found that if we changed the 'auto lock' in settings to never then all was fine. Give it a go.

Easy - if you have a Google account.   You will find the calendar app by clicking on the 9xsquare logo which is usually up on the right, next to your name.

Check out a You Tube tutorial if you need more advanced help.

I'm not an expert with Google calendars, but each student could create their own calendar with their school Google account, then share this calendar with you.   This will enable you to view their calendar.

You could create a calendar for your snappers (like this name) and workshops, then share with the students so that it will appear on their own calendar.

If you share this calendar with them, then all snappers and workshops will appear on their calendar.  This might be confusing for some if they only need ones that pertain to them.  Though not a problem if they need to view the entire selection of snappers and workshops, then select the ones that align with their personal learning pathway.

  • MeganCroll1 31 Aug 2014 3:14pm () in NZ e-Learning pedagogy: What does a New Zealand student in 2014 look like?

An interesting discussion that I will follow, and contribute towards, with interest.

I'm currently supporting a bunch of fantastic Year 5&6 learners and have been slowly developing their awareness of self-direction, motivation and problem-solving - especially with the increased emphasis on eLearning.   I'm finding this shift in learning will take time.  Some are running with it, others are needing more support to identify where they are at - what their next steps are, rather than leaps.

I feel the relationship between parent and student has an impact on their ability to collaborate, communicate and self-direct their own learning.  If they are not given a chance to make decisions, be accountable for their actions and take risks at home, then it becomes a whole new learning arena in a MLE.

  • MeganCroll1 27 Aug 2014 9:24pm () in Chromebook mousepad/trackerpad is frozen

Thanks Hamish.   I'm not sure how to get to the settings when I have no way of directing the cursor to the "hamburger" in the top right corner of the screen.   The chromebook is at school, so I'll have a go tomorrow by using the tab key to see if I can tab to that spot and access settings.

I'll give our suppliers a call and see if they can help.

This sort of problem highlights the positives for BYOD.  As I'm sure that students wouldn't be immobilising their own device :(

    Thanks for your help Hamish.

I've trawled the web, but can't find anything other than the 'power wash' that you suggest.    Do you think reseting through the management console will help?
