The new Google Drive is much better for mobile and android devices. A vast improvement . You can view all documents in your drive and manage them from there, including putting them in folders, and sharing.
Go to: g.co/getdrive
You can press the pencil to edit and then you can download the Google docs app from itunes so you can edit documents the same as editing on a laptop, and the free google sheets app from itunes and you can edit spreadsheets.
Gotta love Google. Getting better the time.
Thanks. A possible solution.
Thanks Ryan,
So just to clarify, the ipads are set up with a school account so you can configure and distribute using configurator, then teachers can go into their own accounts to upload any other free apps. Do you have any issues when the ipads are plugged back in to configure them through Apple configurator?
Thanks Viviien,
This is probably the best solution. It gets tricky when there are a number of ipads in a school. Thanks for your help.
I have just found out that Learning Point are offering the following course for configurator.

One person who went told me it was a bit complicated for her but I would be interested to hear other impressions if you have done it or are going to do it.
I am wondering what people are doing regarding giving teachers the ability to explore what apps are good. We all read about what's good but know I need to trial them before I can introduce them to anyone else. So if a school is VPP and the IT manager is managing the account with secure purchases how do we give an ipad to a teacher to take home in the holidays and explore new apps?
Are you able to set up a different purchasers ID on the ipad, and give the teacher this ID so they can download free programs? Then remove anything when you get back to syncing them. Do you have to remove them? Can they stay on there or will sycing them mean they syc to all other devices?
Does it mean that the teachers need to have their own iPad and account (school supplied or not) to enable them to discover what's out there? Any suggestions or ways of operating from others would be much appreciated.
Great Stephen. Thanks for the reply. I love the analogy too and will also use it with my schools. It has really clarified it for me. Having used GAFE quite a bit, and Moodle only a little it was hard to know the answer to this. It is great to have someone who knows both and can see the differences.
Does GAFE do it all, or do we still need to have an LMS like Moodle?
An add on that needs to be installed but only a one click process and easy.
