Hi Deeann, In order to build place value knowledge, it is important for students to See, Say and make a number using different materials like ice block sticks, tens frame, abacus, number rack app and number pieces app.
Students can make a number using Number pieces app and take a photo of the representation. We could import this photo on to 'Show me app' and describe the representation eg. 17 - Seventeen ones, One ten and seven ones, 17 etc. We could also use this for number operations where students can record and explain their thinking.
Thanks Ben for organising this. I have cross-posted your post to the Primary Maths community as well.

Just had a request from a Mathematics leader (Central Auckland school): Maths in MLE
This school will be moving into MLE next year and would like us to support them with some ideas and thoughts.
How does Maths learning look like in a modern learning environment ? What is similar and different from traditional Maths teaching and learning? What pedagogical changes do we need to make?
I will be posting this discussion topic in MLE group as well.
Thanks and really appreciate any thoughts.
