So pleased you have shared this video, Tessa. It is an hour long but Andreas Scheicher is well worth listening to. His big picture view of education for the future across the world is invaluable.
Next question - how to lock down learners to one app on a Lenovo tablet? I have googled but no joy yet.

Actually, Tessa, I have been asking another question lately. Is text going to disappear completely? With the advent of multimedia ways of communicating and the sharp rise of video (predicted to rise to 82% of internet communications by 2020), I have been provoking discussion about this very concept. Text, after all, has only been commonplace since the printing press arrived. Hmmm, is that taking the whole concept too far?
Hi Andrea
Just thought I would clarify one thing, you do not have to report to parents that their child is at, below or well below a standard. This is clarified on Misunderstanding #5 at this link. Teachers are only required to report standards to the board. I like the table at this link, also on TKI, which takes the emphasis away from one way reporting to information sharing to inform learning. Much more positive and not focused on negative aspects of meeting standards.

We have to ask ourselves - what is the purpose of measuring? The national standards only report on literacy and numeracy, and for whom? The MOE? The parents? The BOT? The teachers? The learner? The purpose is different for each group of people and we are only really required to report to the BOT and MOE.
I really like Justin's idea about celebrating expertise in individual areas. This is what is most important in the development of children who can be fully equipped to face the world ahead.
Don't be sorry, Tim. Your view needs to be spread widely in our schools. Professional debate is to be totally encouraged.
Note on this link you can see that is not true.
