    What is the meaning of consultation from the smallest to largest topic?

    To me good consultation is when your opinions and the voices of staff are heard and taken into account, or when your opinion is asked whether it has an impact or not before a decision is made.

    Poor consultation is when a Principal tells the staff what changes are occuring and no imput from staff is asked.

    The first in my opinion leads to a happy workplace where staff feel valued and respected and good will is evident and in abundance.

    The later is where the workforce are suspicious of each other. They are careful of whom they talk to and 'bitching' behind peoples back is evident.

    Consultation (in the extreme) can lead to a complete breakdown in relationships and communication between staff and senior management and if not used effectively can be a very dangerous path for a Principal to take a school.
