The Virtual Professional Learning Development programme (VPLD) team is very keen to hear from NZ teachers, Principals, APs and DPs, who are interested in participating in the next VPLD intake (programme beginning in February 2012).
It becomes a little frustrating when you visit a resource (this one for instance) and try to visit the links (to the VPLD ning) only to discover that it's blocked by Watchdog!
Grrr...that is SO frustrating for you, Jo:-(. There is more information here on the e-Learning blog (/pg/blog/read/118614/invitation-to-register-interest-for-2012-virtual-professional-learning-development-programme
Hi Jo...this Hazel Owen here from the VPLD team (and I most definitely second the grrr above!
A couple of our couple participant's schools also had Ning blocked by Watchdog, and they were able to work with their ICT coordinator to get the blocking 'lifted' so now they can access it at school and at home.
In the meantime, if you would like to find out more, most of the info is available in Google docs as well . Here are the links (and please sing out if you have any questions):
You may also find this video of interest (it gives a very brief overview of the programme as it was in 2010 in its trial stage - so some things have changed / are no longer correct, but it does give you a feel for the VPLD) - if you prefer a different format this might be of interest. (It has quite a few quotes from participants, and more of a broad overview / background.): Bringing the Learning to you: Virtual Professional Development Communities.

...and I'll talk to the VPLD to see if there's a work-around.
