Kia ora tātou

The term has started and in my communication and conversations with teachers around the entire country I hear examples of fatigue, brown-out and frustration. In my conversations with those supporting teachers, for example those at the Ministry of Education, NZQA and a local music retail store I hear similar echoes but of course their challenges are different in that they don’t have classrooms (virtual or face-to-face) of students. Being part of the online MENZA conference in the holidays was a great opportunity to reconnect with teachers from around the country (and overseas). The range and content of the workshops was awesome. Perhaps it also filled a small need to meet with colleagues outside of our small bubbles and be enriched by the knowledge of others.

I know that Term 4 is hectic, so I hope that you are all planning on taking a real break over Christmas. Do something musical for yourself perhaps?

A reminder that if you are needing support, to reach out to your colleagues in your region or around the country, to your senior leadership, your local PPTA/NZEI rep, someone at MENZA or message someone on the musicnet list. If you don’t know who to help with your question, then just email me directly and I’ll put you in touch with someone.  Other options are Lifeline (open 24/7) - 0800 543 354, Depression Helpline (open 24/7) - 0800 111 757, Healthline (open 24/7) - 0800 611 116, Samaritans (open 24/7) - 0800 726 666
