Visarts Summary to the 23rd of July

Visarts summary to the 23rd July

Kia ora koutou,

Hopefully everybody in the teaching sector has had a refreshing break these school holidays and are ready for the term to come.

Renown artist Cliff Whiting recently passed away - Kua hinga te totara i te wao nui a Tane - Rest in Peace Cliff Whiting. Great artist, great teacher.

Many of you were lucky enough to attend the bi-annual ANZAAE Conference in Whanganui during the past week. Congratulations to Di Smallfield for her Sustained Leadership award - very richly deserved for an unassuming and generous practitioner. As a community we need to treasure people like Diana as the rich (and dare I say lengthy?!) experience they have is a taonga in a climate where professional development opportunities for Arts teachers have greatly decreased in recent history. To Lee and the team behind the organisation of the conference - thank you on behalf of your community for your tireless work on top of already demanding careers.

For those, like me, who were prevented from attending the conference due to family commitments (gutted!) the keynote videos on the ANZAAE Facebook page are a real boon. Please join our national association, as without collective support for this organisation we cannot have a powerful collective voice .
