smiley FORUM: Snapshots of Universal Design for Learning, 25 July - 25 August

Teachers are passionate about meeting the diverse needs of all their learners, sometimes this can be overwhelming, so it's encouraging to see that there are digital tools, teaching ideas examples and support material to help us in the classroom. In this forum, we'll explore some school stories and snapshots that showcase how digital technologies can support learners with learning challenges such as; ADHD, ASD, Dyslexia and low vision. This is also an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, ideas, wonderings, concerns and needs. This conversation will be hosted in the Teaching group.

smiley FORUM: Learning with digital technologies, 14 August - 14 September

School reportIn this forum we take a look at some of the 20/20 Trust survey findings in their report, Digital Technologies in Schools 2016-17 about the impact of digital technologies on teaching and learning. We look at the key findings on how NZ schools manage access to, and the use of, digital technologies as a medium for curriculum delivery and student learning, and invite your feedback about these developments in your school. We'd love to hear more. This conversation will be hosted in the Leadership group.

Proble solverWe profile some more exciting resources and practical examples of project based learning with key themes around; solving real world problems, collaborative communities examples of financial capability, enterprise and PREP. Where to start? If you're wanting more support or have your own ideas to share in this area, we'd love for you share some practical ideas and examples of PBL in this dedicated forum. This conversation will be hosted in the Teaching group.

CollaborationWhat's working well in the early stages of CoLs development and what will need more time and focus for collaborative goals to be realised within and between schools? Collaboration is the #1 recurring theme for Communities of Learning | Kāhui Ako. What does this mean and do we know we're being collaborative or successful in a collaborative model. We'd love for you to dive in and share what you think collaboration looks like in a new age PLD model. This conversation will be hosted in the Leadership group.

Virtual realityLast term we looked at how some secondary students from Pakuranga College were designing and creating using robotics, 3D printers and coding. This time we look at how students are working together to create 3D games using virtual reality. Connected Learning Advisory webinars

The Connected Learning Advisory — Te Ara Whītiki is a free, Ministry of Education service which gives advice on support on integrating digital technologies with learning.

In Term 3 2017, the Connected Learning Advisory (CLA) are running half day or optional full day workshops aimed at supporting leaders in schools, kura and Communities of Learning | Kāhui Ako to lead change with the help of digital technologies. The workshops are free of charge and are being held in locations across the country, from 14 August - 8 September.


The workshops are aimed at Cross-Community of Learning | Kāhui Ako, in-school teachers and other teachers who have responsibility for leading teams in their schools and will explore how digital technologies can be used to:

  • Allow teams to collaborate, both within and between schools, kura, and Communities of Learning | Kāhui Ako as they work towards common achievement challenges
  • Provide professional learning that is accessible, engaging and self-directed
  • Encourage educators to be connected through online, as well as offline, networks
  • Increase access to research, resources, and experts from across the sector and beyond
