Musicnet Summary 27th May 2017

asdf.png

Kia ora tātou,

It seems to me, that Term 2 is the busiest for regional and national musical events. From the Smokefree Rockquest and Chamber Music to the Big Sing and a number of Jazz Festivals along with competitions such as “Who Loves Who The Most.” This is in addition to weekly school-based performances at assemblies, instrument recitals and local community events such as gala days and fundraising nights. (Did I mention NZ Music Month and Hook line and sing a long on the 31st!)

Often I only see the other music teachers in my region at these events; when we’re wrangling guitars and students whilst ensuring that the said event is videod so that I can assess it later.

My point? If your region has a day or afternoon for Professional Development this Term, (which again, is traditionally the term to run PD!) then I strongly encourage you to make time to get to it. Outline to your Deputy Principal or PD Approval person, the importance of taking time out to sit back and think about what you’re doing.

If there’s nothing on near you, then maybe you could plan to head to the bi-annual TRCC MENZA Music Conference in October. Places are filling fast.
