Kia ora tātou,

We’re halfway through the term, ‘mock’ exams are looming, spring buds forming and each week there seems to be another national music competition final or festival. I’d like to encourage you to see if there is any Professional Development happening near you between now and the end of the year. Sign up to go and not only will you learn something new, but you’ll have the chance to spend a few hours thinking about what you are doing!

Summary of Musicnet to 22nd August 2016

General (for all Music Levels)

·         An appraisal document for ITMs was shared by Phil. Do use it as a starting point and adapt to apply to your school.

·         James has a short survey for Arts Leaders that he is looking for respondents to complete. This will help him with his Master of Education (Educational Leadership)

·         Taonga Puoro instrument posters were sought. Check out the MENZA Magazine pull-out earlier this year.

·         Feeback from users of www.hooktheory.com are sought.

·         Dyslexia and Dyspraxia resources for Instrument Learning.

·         Auckland Museum is looking for bands to perform as part of their excellent upcoming exhibition in April 2017.

·         91275 Level 2 Aural School ‘Mock’ Exam will be released from the creative engine of Learning Ideas on Sunday 28th August. I’m sure that teachers are more excited about this than students.

·         Viv is looking to use KAMAR for Itinerant teachers to create timetables and report spaces.

·         Mary Gentle is on leave and is looking for feedback on some Music notation and technology resources she is developing.

Professional Development/Concerts/Competitions

·         Applications for the University of Otago $5000 performance music scholarship donated through the Friends of the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra are now open.

·         Susan West, Katie Wardrobe, MENZA afternoon workshops and AGM. Coming up in September in Invercargill, Dunedin, Christchurch and Auckland.

·         NZ Opera’s Sweeney Todd has open rehearsal tickets available in AKL, WLG and CHCH.

·         NZ Brass Musician of the Year nominations close soon.

As always, this summary will be uploaded to the Musicnet VLN Blog and our Twitter feed @ArtsOnline1. To access any of the threads on the Arts Online website archive simply type the username “artsonline” and the password “mailinglist” to do this.
