Each week I receive ideas from those teachers that I meet, and hopefully contribute reciprocally in the same conversation. The posts on this forum are mainly answered by those on this forum. As we delve into final few weeks of the term, I thank you in advance for your posts, tips and tricks that enable us all to be better teachers.


Summary to 19 June 2016

General (for all Music Levels)

·         Caitlin asked for advice in soundproofing. Stephen replied with some great low-cost ideas.

·         Four Chord Uke Tips from Katrina

·         Education Council and ITM Registration frustrations were vented.

·         The Learning Ideas website is down at the moment. Contact Duncan directly if you need him.



·         ONZA Primary Teacher PD at Mairangi Bay Primary School. Suitable for generalist and specialist teachers looking to build their skills and confidence.



·         A Level 3 Solo set consisting only of one piece was discussed.

·         Level 1 Solo performance requirements were discussed. This began with a question on marking down a student if they use sheet music.

·         TKI Examples for AS91422 will arrive in 2017. Contact me directly if you need some help creating your own task this year.


Professional Development/Concerts/Competitions


·         Richard Roberts is available for workshops with bands as part of the WeBo festival 8-12 August. Contact Andrew for more information.

·         NZ Secondary Schools Choir Performance July 1s AKL

·         Waikato Band and Orchestra Festival - Friday 19th August.

·         WeBO Wellington 13 & 14th August.

·         Virtual Opera Fieldtrips for The Magic Flute and Madama Butterfly with great resources are free.



·         Music/Performing Arts Assistant position at King’s School AKL.  

·         TIC Music Otamatea High School.

·         NZSO Student prices for concerts in Wellington, New Plymouth, Hamilton, and Auckland.
