Tēnā koutou, talofa lava, malo e lelei and welcome to the latest e-Learning round-up for Term 4. In this edition, we bring you the latest updates from across the VLN as well as upcoming events.

Check out the next up-coming live event and all of the planned events in the Enabling e-Learning Term 4 calendar of events.

Smile LIVE WEBINAR: Maker space and Maker movement, what is it and why do we do it? (November 11, 3.45-4.45pm)

Technology has now become inaccessible in terms of maintenance and modification. There's an ‘open hardware movement’ – designed so we can, “open stuff up and find out how it works” like we used to do in Granddad’s shed. Here we can share a space and our knowledge together to solve problems – with open-sourced materials, software and hardware (free, low cost computers). “Let’s create kid-centric autonomous zones, where we’re taking back control of our technology."

Come join Leanne Stubbing (Kelburn Normal School and presenter in our last unconference webinar) and Nicki Tempero (LwDT facilitator) as they talk about the philosophy that's driving their creative, problem solving learning activities in their schools. We'd also love to hear your experiences with 'tinkering', 'maker space' or the 'maker movement'. A support discussion will feature In the Enabling e-Learning | Teaching group. Hosted in Adobe Connect with Tessa Gray. REGISTER NOW!

Also, check out what's new in the latest Enabling e-Learning newsletter http://eepurl.com/bzmBLv.

We look forward to your contributions to the discussions and webinars this term.

Have a relaxing break everyone.

Tess smiley (on behalf of the Enabling e-Learning online team).

In this edition, we’d like to acknowledge Tony Cairns for sharing his extensive knowledge of professional learning opportunities on offer in NZ and beyond. His contributions can be viewed in, I missed out on PLD these last holidays. Well worth adding to your own professional learning networks.

Reporting to Parents in MLE: Angela Pettersson’s school is currently reviewing how they report to whānau and is interested in hearing how other schools manage learning conferences in an innovative learning environment. What role does the child/teacher play? How many teachers are involved in a child’s learning conference? Where do you hold them? Please feel free to share what works for you.

Smile BLOG SERIES: Leading learning and responsive PLD at Ngatea Primary School | A leadership inquiry:

This three part blog series shares how Ngatea Primary School has created flexible learning pathways, so that staff can have ownership of their own professional learning and development. A blended approach to accessing PLD (face-to-face and online) means that professional learning can be responsive, timely and relevant to both adult and student learners' needs.

The first instalment kicks off by introducing the future-focused ideas around:
  • Leadership in a future-oriented learning system
  • Responsive culture for PLD
  • Personalising learning through the use of technologies
  • Virtual learning opportunities (VLN, Twitter, Facebook, Pond)

Threads, Resourcing how and why of e-Learning | NAPP Kōrero 6 2015 and Sustainable strategies: Integrating e-Learning, leadership inquiry and classroom practice | Kōrero 14 2015 continue to grow as leaders share how they are trialing and implementing technologies, while also debating the complexities, successes and further considerations when leading e-learning across a school.

Smile DISCUSSION FORUM: Mobile digital devices, what's working, what's not? (November 5 - December 5)

How do you make device decisions in your school? When is it appropriate to use desktops, laptops or mobile devices? Who's making these decisions and how are they informed? We'd love to hear more, maybe even crowd-source a resource to help others with these pivotal decisions - about what's appropriate when it comes to decisions about what devices to purchase, when to use them and why. This conversation will be hosted in the Technology group.

Enabling e-Learning event | What will we see in technology and e-learning in 2015? Great scott it was Back to the Future day on October 21, 2015. So how close is our reality to the predictions made in the movie? And what other great fictional pieces have helped to influence technologies?

File management: Kararaina Luke is having trouble transferring teacher ownership of files over to the File Manager as it duplicates the copies. Can anyone help Kararaina with this issue?
