Musicnet Summary to 20th Feb 2015

Kia ora tātou,

Welcome to this week’s summary. It seems that many of you have had your heads down this week as Musicnet has been a little quieter. If you missed it, the list of winners in the Grammy awards are online. Did you know there are 63 categories? Including Best Recording Package, Best Album Notes and Best Regional Mexican Music Album (including Tejano)

Summary to 20th Feb

  • Auckland University is running a national survey on singing in Primary Schools. The results will be used to create programs to support music specialists in Primary Schools.

  • Phil Darragh is re-aligning his junior assessments and would like to see some examples of how other schools do this.

  • Steve began a valuable thread on what groups HODs and TICs actually take. Thanks to those have replied already.

  • Opportunities for Cornet players came from the NZ Artillery Band and Naenae Intermediate.

  • Help with Beatboxing was shared by Carey. This is also similar to how I worked with a student using Ableton Live for composition.

  • A request from a first year teacher in a low-decile school looking at an online solutions for lessons finished the week.

Finally the first round of Regional Arts Partnerships beings this week in Palmerston North. I will be the Music specialist in Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin. Jeni Little will be present in Napier, Rotorua, Hamilton, Auckland and Whangerei. In the last four years, these have been one of the best places I have found to share and collect ideas. Please register if you have done so yet.
