A Year in Review 2014 - VLN Primary School

Tēnā koutou katoa

It has been another exciting & busy year for the VLN Primary School as we continue to provide learning opportunities for students in schools around New Zealand.
Here's some quick stats:  75 Schools have engaged in VLN Primary programmes and supported projects this year. 239 students have made 320 enrolments in 26 weekly lessons (Languages, Maths & Science), this number does not include the number of students who have also participated in the Over the Back Fence & Photography projects. We farewell 98 Year 8s, many have been learning with us for the last 2 years, a few for the last 4 years! Also farewell and big thanks to Kymm Mcphail who has provided elearning support for us this year.

Next year we are looking forward to add to our curriculum, offering Korean & Tokelauan, Asian Studies, Ngā Pūrākau Māui, new Science classes - Mixing things (Chemistry) & Plant Biology. We would like to offer Coding, Minecraft Challenges, Astronomy, & more Literacy units. If you are keen to learn to teach online and to develop and offer any of these learning opportunitiesplease contact Rachel.

Sustainability continues to be an ongoing concern for our activities with current Ministry funding taking us through until the end of 2015. Such is the uncertainty of learning in a digital age, that we are yet to push through into traditional schooling structures and with it secure access to resourcing. We will continue to advocate for schools with the goal of having permanent support for initiatives such as this one within the NZ schooling sector. Please do the same by sharing and promoting your students online learning successes with your school community and networks. Include your VLN Primary participation in your own school planning, strategic goals and reporting so that the work we do becomes more visible, more recognised and better supported.
