Analysing PAT results and Jeffrey Smith

  • Public
By Mike Reid

Whilst I really enjoyed the talk by Professor Jeffrey Smith on data analysis I do not believe that the programme SPSS is one that we would want to investigate for the data analysis we want to do. There is a better option for the statisitcs we want called Fathom or Tinkerplots. Both these programmes are at the essence of the new Statstics Curriculum and students in the colleges and schools could also make use of these programmes in their learning of Statisitcs. Tinkerplots is just a cut down version of Fathom and it would be suitable for classroom use by Year 6-8 students as well as Secondary. It is point and click statistics package which encourages students to investigate "what if" type analysis. If you are interested I could show pictures of what it can do re analysing PAT's etc
