Following on from yesterday's post about Google Apps for Education I am going to share some activities using Google Forms. Assessment, surveys or collecting student voice Google Forms has so many uses. Have a go at these two.
Kei te pēhea koe?/Mood Monitor
After attending a Google Summit this idea was shared by Jennie Magiera and I have seen it used a lot in schools and kura. At the start of the day students complete the form and the teacher is aware of how the students are feeling.
Reomations and Forms
In this example I have uploaded a He Reo Tupu He Reo Ora Reomation to Youtube and embedded it into a form. Students watch the Reomation then answer the questions.
Results are automatically recorded in a Google Sheet. Here is what the above results look like.
I have only mentioned one Google App and there are plenty more. For more information check out the Google Apps VLN group or leave your questions or ideas below.

As a facilitator working in schools and kura I am fortunate enough to see and hear so many success stories involving learners, teachers, whānau and the wider community. Collaborative tools such as Google Apps for Education are very topical as combined with effective pedagogy have the ability to empower the relationship within schools and kura.
Here are some stories from the superb Enabling e-Learning site. I have chosen these stories as they demonstrate how the tool is used and the rationale or pedagogy to support them. Key themes in this stories include Māori and Pasifika learners, teaching as inquiry, collaboration, ubiquitous learning and sharing.

Padlet is one of my favourite digital tools because it is an engaging way to create and share information. It can be used in so many ways such as capturing student and whānau voice. As it is digital it can be referred to from anythime and it and beats carrying around post it notes everywhere. I also like how it can be shared in different ways including embedding them.
Have a go at this one in te reo Māori or English
What ways have you used Padlet before?

Interactive whiteboard apps such as Educreations and Show Me are a superb way to share and reinforce learning. I have seen them used very effectively by teachers in a flipped classroom style, so the learning is ubiquitous. They can be used by students in a tuakana-teina setting and to share what has been learnt.
These apps fit into the "Learn, Create, Share" concept and enables the students to be at the centre of learning.

Yesterday’s post we looked at the He Reo Tupu He Reo Ora resource and the reomations included in this resource. Recording is a superb strategy to support learning and teaching of te reo Māori. With so many digital technologies out there we sometimes forget how useful the camera is on the devices we use. There are several ways you can make your own film or reomation to capture a kōrero between learners. A very popular way is using apps simlar to Puppet Pals where voice can be recorded and shared.
Finally this kōrero on apps to support te reo Māori in the iPad rōpū and Android rōpū are worth checking out. If you have an app you use for te reo Māori then I invite you to share.

He Reo Tupu He Reo Ora is a fantastic free resource produced by the Ministry of Education. If you don't have a copy at your school you can access all the resources online here.
The resource is divided into eight learning contexts and is set out as follows:
I like the reomations that accompany each context, these are an engaging method to learn and reinforce the reo you are covering. You can also download the reomation app to your mobile device via iTunes or Google Play.

Tomorrow we will look at some ways to create your own reomations.

This week we are looking at digital technologies to enhance te reo Māori learning and teaching. To start, Tellagami is a mobile app (ios and Android) that lets you create and share a quick animation. Tellagami is a great way for students to share their mahi in a non-threatening way and hear themselves speaking te reo Māori.
Hei tauira - Here's an example
To extend the use of Tellagami Anthony Faitaua created this resource.
And this excellent post from Allanah King using Tellagami and the SAMR Model.

Supporting whānau to use digital technologies is a wonderful opportunity ot invite whānau to your school and to strengthen the home-school relationship.
Finlayson Park are a decile 1 school with many families that do not have access to the Internet. The school has set up a computer lab and fund a teacher aide to provide free lunchtime teaching sessions for parents on how to use computers and access the Internet. Benefits include improved engagement for students and the development of a strong partnership with parents.
